Marseille coach Elie Baup was thrilled to secure a win on Sunday in his first home Ligue 1 match in charge of the club.
Baup’s side recorded a 2-0 win – with goals from Andre-Pierre Gignac and Rod Fanni – over Sochaux to continue their perfect start to the season.
Baup has taken over from new France boss Didier Deschamps and said he was pleased with his side’s performance and the response from the home fans.
“It was a very warm reception today,” Baup said. “There was a lot of emotion but I did not want to show anything.
“It is always a strong feeling coming here. I came with other teams but the atmosphere was different. Today this is my team and it is different. At the beginning you feel something for a few minutes. Then you have to start to think about the game, that’s it.
“It is still 2-0, even if both goals come from free-kicks. We had a lot of chances and should maybe have had a penalty but we are not going to complain about it. We have to keep playing this way to get results.”
