Marseille coach Elie Baup has demanded his side pick up three points against Saint Etienne on Sunday to aid their Ligue 1 title push.

Baup’s team are looking for their third consecutive league victory and will be confident of securing that against a team who have failed to win so far in December.

A win for Marseille would see them move level with Paris Saint-Germain at the top and, with Lyon in close company, Baup knows the importance of taking full points.

“For both teams, in terms of motivation (the game is important), even though it’s the last game of year, after playing so many games. It’s always complicated, but the context surrounding the game is important for both teams,” Baup said.

“They (Saint Etienne) want to come back in contention after two bad performances recently and we owe our fans for a good performances at the Stade Velodrome, and we owe that to everyone.

“We need to stay focused on our game for many reasons, but also because it’s important to take more points compared to our rivals.”
