Marseillle manager Elie Baup has hailed the resilience of his side following their 3-2 victory over Montpellier on Saturday.

Andre Ayew put Marseillle in front after 14 minutes before Emanuel Herrera and John Utaka struck on either side of the interval for Montpellier.

Ayew levelled proceedings in the 79th minute, with Andre-Pierre Gignac sealing the win for the hosts in stoppage time.

“In football you have to keep going and always believe you can do it until the last minute,” Baup said.

“In a certain way, there is always something within the group’s dynamic in the way they do not want to give up.

“It is what we have shown a lot so far this season with our mentality. We are able to change things and keep going in a game.

“Today it has happened during the very last second making the result even better.”

The win saw Marseille climb to second on the table, one point behind Ligue 1 leaders Lyon, while Montpellier slipped to 12th.

“We were leading 1-0 and then they levelled the score,” Baup added.

“After that Montpellier scored another goal, as they were very strong on the counterattack.

“At that moment we decided to change everything about our game plan, so we did believe we could do it.

“Even at 2-2 it was still possible. So to win this evening is huge.

“It defines football, sometimes it’s not logical.”
