Marseille coach Elie Baup was pleased with his team’s fighting qualities after their 1-0 victory against Bordeaux in Ligue 1.
Andre-Pierre Gignac scored the game’s only goal just before half-time on Friday and Baup was pleased with the work rate exhibited by his players.
“What I’d like to emphasise tonight is our defensive solidity at the moment, the fact that everyone does this extra bit of work for the team-mate even during tough times, like we had tonight,” Baup said.
“We never give up and tonight, we were not always the best team on the pitch, but we did not concede and we had this opportunity to score.”
With continental qualification not yet secured this season, Baup made it clear it was his team’s immediate goal as the campaign winds down.
“What really matters is the last five or six games,” he said.
“We played other teams with European ambitions like Bordeaux and now we are playing Lille who is also a direct opponent for Europe.
“We must keep fighting like we are doing now but it’s good to go there next weekend having already won against two opponents such as Nice and Bordeaux.”
