Bayern Munich’s director of sport said on Tuesday the German giants were on the look-out for big-name signings to join their current crop of stars such as Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben.
“It is our duty to bring big names to Munich. We are always keeping our eyes open,” Christian Nerlinger told Munich regional paper TZ.
“We are looking for quality, not quantity. A classy player who stands out from the crowd. We already have in Franck and Arjen two players with that little bit of extra class,” he said.
Nerlinger added: “It is important to have someone who can turn a match out of nothing.”
Nevertheless, he warned that players of that quality are rare.
And he pointed to the example of Real Madrid to show that a team packed with superstars does not necessarily guarantee a winning side.
The Spanish side suffered a shock defeat to Lyon in the Champions League last-16, after spending more than 250 million euros (343 million dollars) on top stars.
For this reason, Bayern would not do anything “without serious consideration” said Nerlinger, whose team currently sit on top of the Bundesliga.
