Bayern Munich appear to be already planning for the next season by adding one of Switzerland’s brightest talents.
Xerdhan Shaqiri of FC Basel is reported to be on the verge of joining Bayern – but any deal will have to wait until the summer when the transfer window re-opens.
Bayern are expected to pay up to 12 million euros for Shaqiri.
The left-footed midfielder plays as the right winger at Basel.
He will have the chance to prove his talent against Bayern when the sides meet in the Champions League on February 22.
But Bayern coach Jupp Heynckes is playing his cards close to his chest.
“I have watched Basel play,” Heynckes is quoted as saying by Suddeutsche Zeitung.
“It is clear that some players stand out.”
Bayern are understood to be on the lookout for a new player to add to their attacking options after missing out on Borussia Monchengladbach’s Marco Reus, who has agreed to join Borussia Dortmund at the end of the season.
Questioned about the reports, Bayern media director Markus Horwick was just as cryptic as Heynckes, saying: “If there were something to say, we would say it.”
