Alejandro Bedoya is getting warmed up quite nicely for Helsingborg’s upcoming Allsvenskan league season in Sweden.
Bedoya scored in his second straight Swedish Cup match, netting Helsingborg’s fourth goal in a 5-0 dismantling of second-tier side Varberg in a Group 6 bout on Sunday.
The win gives Helsingborg four points with one group game against fellow top-flight side Gefle remaining, and – because of the club’s plus-five goal differential – a win would likely guarantee a knockout stage spot.
The winners of each of the eight groups move on to the quarter-finals of the competition.
The United States international winger got on the board in the 79th minute, building off his goal in last weekend’s 1-1 draw with second-tier club Assyriska.
The three Swedish Cup matches act as a precursor to the league season, which begins for Bedoya and Helsingborg on March 31 at home against Djurgarden.
