Anderlecht’s charge toward the Belgian First Division title continued unabated on Friday after a comfortable 2-0 home win over Charleroi.

Dieumerci Mbokani gave the hosts the lead after 13 minutes in Brussels after being set up by Dennis Praet, the Congolese striker netting his 17th goal of the campaign.

Belgian midfielder Massimo Bruno extended the advantage on 40 minutes when he latched onto Sacha Klejstan’s delivery to give John van den Brom’s side a two-goal buffer at the interval.

Charleroi tightened up in defence in the second half but the lead never looked like slipping away from Anderlecht’s grasp.

After securing an astonishing 13th league win from 14 matches, van den Brom’s side are now 11 points clear from second-placed Zulte-Waregem, who host Waasland-Beveren on Saturday.

Charleroi stay 11th, but could drop closer to the relegation places should Waasland-Beveren or Gent pick up wins over the weekend.
