Standard Liege condemned Cercle Brugge to a 10th defeat of the Belgian First Division campaign with a 2-1 result on Friday.

Imoh Ezekiel put Liege in front in the first half before Eidur Gudjohnsen struck back for Cercle just after the break.

Ignacio Gonzalez was the match winner for the home side with a goal in the 56th minute.

The three points have taken Liege up to eighth on the table, while Cercle are bottom of the league with just four points.

The result makes it two wins from three matches for Liege, continuing their improvement after they lost the preceding four games.

Nigerian striker Ezekiel gave the hosts the lead in the 30th minute when he scored from an assist by Frederic Bulot.

In the first minute of the second half, Gudjohnsen scored his third goal in three games since joining Cercle at the start of this month with substitute Mushaga Bakenga providing the final pass.

But Liege clinched the win when Bulot set up Gonzalez just 10 minutes later.
