Anderlecht suffered their second defeat in a week as the defending champions lost 2-0 at Sporting Charleroi.
John van den Brom’s men were unfortunate to be beaten 1-0 in their UEFA Champions League Group C clash against Zenit St Petersburg midweek but they could have no complaints at the Stade du Pays de Charleroi on Saturday.
Charleroi started the match on the front foot and they were soon rewarded for their dominance through Giuseppe Rossini after 28 minutes.
The hosts doubled their advantage two minutes into the second-half thanks to an own goal from Anderlecht defender Marcin Wasilewski.
As a result, Anderlecht missed the opportunity to move top before Club Brugge’s match at home to Lokeren, while Charleroi pulled six points clear of the relegation zone.
Zulte-Waregem joined Anderlecht on 22 points and in second position after they edged relegation candidates Waasland-Beveren 2-0.
French midfielder Frank Berrier opened the scoring on eight minutes before adding a second deep into injury time.
OH Leuven claimed their fourth successive victory with a comfortable 3-0 win over Beerschot at Olympisch Stadion.
Leuven had netted 13 goals in three games prior to Saturday’s fixture and they continued that free-scoring form at Beerschot.
After a scoreless opening 45 minutes, the deadlock was finally broken 10 minutes into the second-half through Kenneth van Goethem.
Karel Geraerts put the result beyond doubt with four minutes remaining before Stefan Gislason added a third for good measure.
Hernan Losada converted a late penalty for the hosts but it proved nothing more than a consolation.
Elsewhere on Saturday, Gent accounted for Mons 2-0, while Mechelen cruised to a 3-0 victory at home to lowly Lierse.
