Ben Arfa to be offered new contract

English newspaper The Journal understands that Newcastle United are set to return to the negotiating table in their bid to extend Hatem Ben Arfa’s contract.

The club officials initially contacted the player’s representatives in July, but the Frenchman wanted to focus on his football having just returned from a lengthy injury lay-off.

With Ben Arfa impressing at the start of the new Premiership campaign, the Magpies are hoping to resume the contract talks in the coming weeks.

The 26-year-old has a contract until June 2015 at St James’ Park, but club chiefs are eager to tie him down to a new long-term deal as they regard him as a key member of the squad.

Hatem Ben Arfa has largely impressed since joining the club from Marseille, even if numerous injury problems prevented him from showing all he’s got.

The winger, nonetheless, managed 11 goals in 52 Premier League matches for the St James’ Park outfit.
