West Ham midfielder Yossi Benayoun says he was disappointed at the anti-Semitic chanting heard from the club’s supporters on Sunday.
During his side’s 3-1 defeat to Tottenham, a section of the away fans are believed to have sung songs referencing Adolf Hitler and the Holocaust – reports which have attracted widespread condemnation from observers.
Two fans were arrested and cautioned at the match, and in light of the events, the Israel international has condemned the ‘minority’ involved.
“I have a great relationship with the West Ham United supporters,” the 32-year-old said on his official Twitter account.
“From my first spell at the club and again now I am back on loan here. This why I was very disappointed to hear some of the songs yesterday and it was embarrassing.
“But we need to remember that it was made by a minority group of fans and I’m sure the FA together with West Ham United football club will do everything to find and punish them.”
