Borussia Dortmund midfielder Sven Bender says the club are aiming to make amends for last season’s Champions League disappointment.
Bundesliga champions Dortmund bowed out in the group stages of the UEFA competition in 2012/13, but did go on to retain their league championship crown.
They also won the DFB-Pokal, and Bender wants the new season will be a better one Dortmund on the European front.
“In the Champions League, we have a few wishes of the fans to meet … we know that,” the 23-year-old told Der Westen.
“We want to play better that we did last year.
“We have the foundations laid for a very good season. And those conditions are optimal.
“However, one cannot say that we will inevitably be champions again. What we can do is lay the stepping stone, then try to achieve the maximum.
“We have no priority. For us, every competition is equal, we want to stay in contention in each as long as possible.”
Dortmund take on Bayern Munich in the German Super Cup on August 12, before kicking off the Bundesliga campaign against Werder Bremen 12 days later.
