(GSM) – Sunday’s Lisbon derby between Benfica and Sporting ended in a 2-0 victory to the home side.

Benfica had won three of the four previous meetings, the other ending undecided. Moreover, Sporting had not won at the ‘Estadio da Luz’ since January 2006.

Paraguayan striker Oscar Cardozo was of great influence in Sunday’s encounter, first opening the scoring on 13 minutes before doubling the advantage five minutes after the break.

For Benfica, it was only the second win in five games. The result leaves the side in eighth position, a spot and a point behind Sporting.
