Benfica defender set for England move

Portuguese newspaper A Bola understands that Benfica stopper Stefan Mitrovic could be moving to English Premier League in the coming days.

The 23-year-old only arrived at Estadio da Luz this summer from Kortrijk, but it looks as though he will be farmed out on loan by the end of the summer transfer window.

Mitrovic is one of no less than six centre-backs in Jorge Jesus’ squad and seeing as though he didn’t even make the bench in Benfica’s two matches this season, he appears set to leave.

According to A Bola, the player’s agent is currently in England, where a number of clubs have expressed interest in signing the Serbian defender.

Stefan Mitrovic spent his early career in Eastern Europe, playing for Petrzalka and Zbrojovka Brno before returning to Serbia to sign for Metalac.

One year later he joined Belgian side Kortrijk, with some impressive displays in Jupiler Pro League earning him a move to Benfica this summer.
