Benfica keen on Mexican starlet

Benfica are readying January bid for Chivas Guadalajara midfielder Jorge Enriquez, according to Record.

With Nemanja Matic the only notable holding midfielder in the squad following departure of Javi Garcia, boss Jorge Jesus is desperate to add another defence-minded player to the centre of the park in the winter transfer window.

Portuguese newspaper Record understands that Mexican midfielder Jorge Enriquez is at the top of Jesus’ wish list.

Enriquez, 21, caught the eye of Eagles scouts with his performances at the 2012 Summer Olympics and has been closely followed ever since.

Benfica are keen to make a move on the talented footballer as early as January, with an €8 million bid being mooted.

Jorge Enriquez came through the youth ranks at Chivas Guadalajara and scored 3 goals in 50 league appearances for the club.

Enriquez featured in all six games for El Tri at the 2012 Olympic Games, while making seven full Mexico caps.
