Benfica set to beat Man City to Sarmiento signing

According to A Bola, Portuguese giants Benfica are set to beat Manchester City in the race to sign Jeremy Sarmiento. The 16 year old plays for Charlton Athletic and has been seriously turning some heads over the course of the last few months, to the point where two of the biggest clubs in Europe are interested in securing his signature. The report suggests that Sarmiento has been spotted inside Benfica’s stadium with their shirt on, but there has yet to be a formal announcement.

City are no strangers to luring big name players to the Etihad, but this move serves as something different. Instead of going after the superstars they’ve been looking into the possibility of signing an unknown star full of potential, which could be the smartest move forward for them.

After all, their major stars won’t last forever, and even though they’ve missed out to Benfica, this is a solid step forward.
