German media outlet Bild is reporting that Bundesliga high-flyers Wolfsburg are hot on the trail of Aston Villa striker Christian Benteke.
The Wolves are expected to seriously reinforce the squad after securing Champions League qualification and they aim to recruit a high-profile striker to provide competition for Bas Dost.
According to Bild, Aston Villa’s Christian Benteke is one of the first names on their hit-list, although a £30 million asking price could prove to be an obstacle to any deal.
The 24-year-old has rediscovered his form under Tim Sherwood, with a number of important goals helping the Villans avoid the drop.
As a result, the likes of Roma, Manchester United and Liverpool are all keen on his services, with Wolfsburg joining the race as well.
The Wolves aim to break the club record for most points in a single season by winning the two remaining fixtures and they can be backed at 13/8 to defeat Borussia Dortmund.
