Turkish champions Besiktas held French side Lyon to a 1-1 draw Saturday in the Peace Cup.

Swedish midfielder Kim Kallstrom opened the scoring for Lyon, who started the match as favourites, with a well-struck shot from outside the penalty area.

But Brazil’s Marcio Nobre equalized for the Turkish side with just six minutes remaining with a header.

Kallstrom almost scored from a free kick in the 77th minute, but his effort struck the crossbar.

Only about 300 people watched the game at Huelva’s Nuevo Colombino stadium despite the discounts of around 50 percent offered on last-minute ticket sales.

Twelve teams from around the globe, including Juventus, Sevilla and Aston Villa, are taking part in the fourth edition of the pre-season tournament which got underway on Friday.

There are four groups with three teams in each. The top team in each group goes through to the semi-finals which will be played on July 31.

The final takes place two days later in Seville.
