Bielsa bids for work permit

Athletic Bilbao manager Marcelo Bielsa has applied for a new work permit that would allow him to stay at the club.

Bielsa, 56, took Athletic to the Europa League and Copa Del Rey finals in the 2011-12 season and although they lost both, they won praise for their attractive style of football.

Speculation had been rife that the Argentine – who is out of contract shortly – would leave the Basque side but his bid for a work permit may prove otherwise.

According to El Correo, Bielsa’s application would allow him to remain in Spain until 2014 and may give him a chance to build on the club’s 10th-placed finish in La Liga this season.
