Championship outfit Blackburn have appointed Gary Bowyer as the club’s permanent manager.
Bowyer has been caretaker manager at Ewood Park on two separate occasions this season, initially taking charge after Henning Berg was sacked in December 2012 before being promoted after Michael Appleton was let go just three months later.
Bowyer was successful in keeping Blackburn in the Championship, a result that was in serious doubt towards the end of the season, with the club eventually finishing 17th on the table, four points clear of safety.
The 41-year-old has worked at Blackburn since 2004 in a variety of academy and reserve-team roles, and was delighted once the announcement was confirmed.
“It is a huge honour and a proud moment for me,” Bowyer said.
“I have been at the club for nine years, I know the traditions. The foundation of the club was built on hard work and that is what we need to produce.
“The supporters want to see the players out there playing for the shirt and giving it their all. We need the players to show the same passion that the fans gave us during our last six games where we just lost the once.”
Blackburn managing director Derek Shaw was pleased to have secured Bowyer’s signature.
He added: “In the two spells as caretaker manager Gary achieved approaching two points a game.
“He has the respect of the players and we feel his in-depth knowledge of working with the youngsters will be of great benefit to Rovers.
“He is held in high regard in football and we certainly wish him all the best going forward.”
Bowyer will be the fourth permanent manager at Blackburn in less than a year.
