Boca Juniors end San Lorenzo’s title dreams

San Lorenzo haven’t been able to secure the Argentinian championship against Boca Juniors, and are in fact left without a chance to lift the trophy.

The match, played at Racing Club’s stadium, needed 45 minutes for the first goal to be scored by Boca’s Viatri. Former Real Madrid and Internazionale player Solari then equalised on the hour mark.

San Lorenzo knew that a draw could well be insufficient to win the league but in the end, even a point was too much to ask. Palacio scored for 1-2 in the 76th minute and Chavez made it 1-3 in the 92nd.

San Lorenzo played the last few minutes with only nine men on the pitch as Aguirre and Bergessio collected second yellow cards.

The fact that Chavez scored that third goal for Boca, means that it has become impossible for San Lorenzo to win the championship. Boca only need a draw with Tigre to secure the title, while a Tigre win would leave all sides equal on points. Depending on the result, the title would then go to either Boca or Tigre.
