Bonucci to remain at Juve until 2020

Juventus have announced that defender Leonardo Bonucci has signed a new deal, keeping him at the club until 2020.

Bonucci joined the Serie A champions from Bari in 2010 and has been a regular starter in Juve’s backline ever since.

Last season, Bonucci played a key role in the side that secured a Scudetto and Coppa Italia double, as well as reaching the final of the UEFA Champions League.

At 28 years of age, Bonucci is expected to see out the majority of the remainder of his career at Juve, while also helping to bring through the next generation of players at the club.

“It’s the start of a new era,” Bonucci said in a media conference. “I’m here to offer my years of experience to help those who have joined the club.

“Juventus have a long-term plan. We’re seeing a new generation coming through with quality young players.

“We’ve maintained our strong spine. This is vital for us to build on and go in search of further successes.

“I’ve had plenty of great times in these past four years [in which Juve have won the title]. Winning a fifth Scudetto in a row will be tough but we’ve got the right motivation to tackle this challenge.”

Juve president Andrea Agnelli added: “It will be a joy to see how Bonucci helps bring through the youngsters.

“I’ve seen Bonucci grow over these five years, both as a player and person. It’s been a real pleasure.

“We’ve spent five years alongside each other and we now look forward to the next five years that lie ahead.”
