Bony urges Michu to stay at Swansea; Sakho attracting BPL interest

Swansea City A.F.C. striker Wilfried Bony has urged Michu to stay at the Liberty Stadium amid reported interest from Arsenal.

Swansea City A.F.C. striker Wilfried Bony has urged Michu to stay at the Liberty Stadium amid reported interest from Arsenal, according to Sky Sports.

Michu, 27, joined Swansea from La Liga side Rayo Vallecano for a fee of £2 million last summer, and went on to score 18 goals in 35 league appearances for the Swans in 2012/13.

The 27-year-old, formerly of Celta Vigo, has since emerged as a transfer target for Arsenal, who are also reportedly interested in Manchester City’s Edin Dzeko and Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema.

With that said, the Swans are still in the market for another striker, especially since they parted ways with Luke Moore earlier this week.

Moore, a former England Under-21 international, has already put pen to paper on a three-year deal with Turkish club Sanica Boru Elazığspor.

Now then, together, Bony and Michu have already bagged a combined six goals in four matches this season, with the former hoping the latter stays in order to form a lethal strike partnership at Swansea.

“I have heard the talk about Arsenal. But I hope he stays because he is very important to us,” said Bony, who joined Swansea from Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem for a club-record fee of £12 million earlier this summer.

“Maybe it will also help me because defenders are looking at him and that can bring more room for me.

“He did very well last season, and this time it can be tougher because other teams know about him. But I think he can do even better because he is such a good player, with such good technique and positioning.

“We have been working together and we know a little bit more every day and can be better and better with each other.

“We talk a lot off the pitch too. He has been my friend to help me feel at home at the club.

“It is not easy to come and adapt in just three or four games, but we will go on working at improving.”

Swansea will travel to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday, with Gareth Bale not expected to attend the match, as per manager Andre Villas-Boas.

Sakho attracting BPL interest

Paris Saint-Germain defender Mamadou Sakho is reportedly attracting interest from a number of Premier League clubs after not featuring in either of the French champions’ first two league fixtures of the season, Sky Sports understands.

By definition, Sakho is “surplus to requirements,” with manager Laurent Blanc favouring the all-Brazilian centre-back pairing of Alex and Thiago Silva , leaving Sakho and €35 million signing Marquinhos on the bench.

According to a source close to the situation, Sakho could leave the Parc des Princes for as little as £8 million.

The France international, 23, is reportedly attracting interest from a host of European clubs, including the likes of AC Milan, Arsenal, Barcelona, Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

“PSG are ready to do a deal, and the interest is big – he is a top talent, and it is not surprising,” the source told Sky Sports.

“He is a top player and, although PSG are willing to sell, they do still want good money for him, but there is now a good chance that he will move and he could very well be heading for England.”

Adding Sakho for £8 million would be a bargain buy for any club in the world.
