Boumsong: I felt undervalued at Lyon

Jean-Alain Boumsong explained the reasons behind his departure from Lyon. The Frenchman says he did not feel valued at Gerland.

This summer, the former French international made a switch to Panathianikos and he says money was not the reason since he accepted the 20% pay cut to what he earned at Lyon.

“I did not move to PAO for money. I really felt a lack of respect at Lyon. Claude Puel has never trusted me and I never worked with him in a good atmosphere. I was always in adversity, even at my own club.”

Boumsong explains why he opted for Panathinaikos.

“To find serenity, happiness and to fall in love with football again. Many believe I am here to retire early. But this is an interesting challenge. I may be wrong, but there are many things to do here.”
