Rangers manager Ally McCoist has refused to rule out a return to Ibrox for striker Kris Boyd, who is available as a free agent.

The 28-year-old terminated his contract with Turkish club Eskisehirspor on Monday following a dispute over unpaid wages.

McCoist admitted he would like to add to his forward options, particularly with striker Nikica Jelavic linked with a move to the Premier League in the January transfer window.

“We’ve not heard anything (about Boyd),” McCoist said. “I’m in absolutely no position to rule anybody out. Unfortunately I’m in no position to count anybody in.”

“All I would say is I’m definitely short on forward areas. Although I can’t say there is definite interest, it’s certainly an area we need strengthening in.”

Boyd joined Rangers from Kilmarnock in 2005, and moved to Eskisehirspor following a largely unsuccessful season in England with Championship side Middlesbrough.
