Bayern Munich’s injury problems mounted ahead of their Champions League trip to Bordeaux on Wednesday with the loss of defender Edson Braafheid who is out with a thigh strain.
The Dutch defender is the fifth Bayern player ruled out of the trip to France with play-makers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery both missing with knee injuries.
Striker Ivica Olic and Brazil defender Breno are out with leg injuries, but Argentina centre-back Martin Demichelis should be fit after a ten week absence with an ankle injury.
“Robben and Ribery are out and it doesn’t make sense to consider players if they are injured,” said Bayern coach Louis van Gaal.
“It is unfortunate, but we must do with other players.”
Bayern beat Freiburg 2-1 in the Bundesliga on Saturday and are fifth in the table while the German giants are joint leaders at the top of Group A in the Champions League alongside Bordeaux who also have four points.
