Bradley to head US football through to 2014 W.Cup

Bob Bradley is back as head coach of the US men’s football team through to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

US Soccer announced Monday it had agreed to a four-year contract extension with Bradley. Bradley’s current contract expires in four months.

In four years he has coached the Americans, Bradley has 38 wins, 20 losses and eight draws.

The USA won one game at the 2010 South Africa World Cup, beating Algeria 1-0. They were eliminated in the second round, losing to 2-1 to Ghana.

“Bob is honoured to be the US coach,” said Bradley’s agent Ron Waxman said. “It’s a job he enjoys very much, and he’s very happy.”

Bradley, who had expressed interest in jobs in the English Premier League, replaced Bruce Arena. Bradley is believed to have been considering to Fulham and Aston Villa for coaching jobs.

Arena led the USA to the quarter-finals of the 2002 World Cup. The Americans were eliminated in the first round of the 2006 tournament under Arena’s coaching.

Bradley is well respected by his players and is not afraid to buck the trend as evidenced by his decision to bring both Edson Buddle and Herculez Gomez to South Africa despite the fact neither was on the team at the beginning of 2010.

Bradley finalised his new deal with US Soccer on Sunday night.
