Gremio defender Andre Santos has expressed his delight at being called up to the Brazil squad for Saturday’s friendly with Bolivia.

Santos returned to his homeland on a loan deal from Arsenal in February, and he feels his recall to the Luiz Felipe Scolari’s set-up is indicative of his improved form and fitness over the past couple of months.

“I am too happy, I cannot hide it,” he told reporters.

“Since I arrived at Gremio, I have worked seriously. I will do anything to stay.

“I thank the club, coaches and directors for giving me all their support. I needed a run of games to get back to my ideal level and consequently show that I’m good enough to return to the national selection.”

Santos is hopeful that a strong showing in Saturday’s friendly match could go a long way to securing his place in the squad in the build-up to the World Cup in 2014.

“I know that the group is not closed. I recognise the quality of the other players, but I hope to be included,” he said.
