A Brazilian presidential adviser has labelled FIFA general secretary Jerome Valcke a “bum” for his comments about the 2014 World Cup.
Valcke claimed last week that the organisers of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil were in need of a “kick up the backside” in light of reports that construction work on their selected tournament venues is behind schedule.
Brazil legend Romario and sports minister Aldo Rebelo both reacted angrily to the Frenchman’s outburst and now Marco Aurelio Garcia, who is an adviser to president Dilma Rousseff, has weighed in.
“This spokesman’s (Valcke) name has been crossed off. This guy is a bum,” Garcia told O Globo.
“The president has better things to be worrying about than the comments of a boquirroto (a person who speaks too much and without thinking).”
“He (Valcke) is a boquirroto but he’s not created a problem for us – he’s created a problem for FIFA.”
Valcke, who used to work as a journalist, was appointed general secretary of FIFA in 2007.
