(GSM) – Napoli are interested in bringing Brazil forward Fred from Fluminense to the Stadio San Paolo during the summer.

Reports had suggested the 26-year-old player is seeking a move to Napoli from Fluminense after agreeing terms on a switch.

According to Napoli’s sporting director, Riccardo Bigon, they are interested in Fred but deal is not yet finalized.

“We have not yet reached any agreement for Fred,” Bigon told Sky Sports Italia.

“It’s true that he is an important player we are tracking, along with other targets. We have had meetings, but nothing is concluded.

“Besides, at the moment we do not even have any non-EU slots available to be filled.

“I’m pleased the player has enthusiasm for us, but I must deny the end of this negotiation.”

Fred has signed a 5 year deal with Brazilian club Fluminense after being released from Lyon and three and a half years remaining on his contract. He has scored 137 goals in 237 career league appearances in both Brazil and Ligue 1 in France.
