Arsenal defender Gabriel has been handed a one-match suspension by the Football Association for improper conduct following his dismissal against Chelsea.
The Brazilian clashed with Diego Costa during Arsenal’s 2-1 defeat at Stamford Bridge last weekend – the Chelsea striker having initially tangled with Laurent Koscielny in a fiery London derby.
Costa was given a three-match suspension for striking Koscielny while Gabriel’s initial appeal against wrongful dismissal for kicking out at Costa was upheld by the FA.
However, the centre-back will now miss Saturday’s Premier League clash with Leicester City due to his failure to leave the field following the red card.
“Following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing, Arsenal defender Gabriel will serve a one-match suspension with immediate effect after he admitted an FA charge of improper conduct,” the FA said in a statement.
Gabriel was also handed a £10,000 fine and warned as to his future conduct.
