Danish Superliga side Brondby travel to Easter Road to face Scottish Championship side Hibernian in the first leg of the second round of the Europa League qualifiers tonight.

With a stronger squad and European pedigree, the visitors are slim favourites to come away with a vital victory to take into the next leg on home soil.

Hibernian booked their place in the Europa League qualifiers after winning last season’s Scottish Cup, but their recent record in continental competitions leaves a lot to be desired. Neil Lennon’s side lost 9-0 on aggregate in their last Europa League qualifier (2013/14), and haven’t made it past the third round for decades.

As for their opponents, Brondby are a team to be fearful of. The Danes frequently make the latter rounds of the qualifiers, and have been a familiar face in the Europa League preliminaries in recent years, compared to the sporadic nature of Hibernian’s European excursions.

Brondby have made it to the Europa League playoffs three times since 2009 so they will be confident going into tonight’s game. Hibs are sure to put up a fight on home soil, but the second tier side – fortunate to be in continental competition – are likely to struggle bridging the gulf in class.

As a result, Bet 365 are giving odds of 15/13 for Brondby to win against Hibernian tonight to have an aggregate lead to take to the return fixture at home.
