Bruce confident of son´s ability

Hull City manager Steve Bruce believes the signing of his son, Alex, makes sense as he continues to bolster the club’s defensive options.

The Hull boss signed the 27-year-old on a free transfer, with the former Leeds United player penning a two-year deal with the Championship outfit.

The versatile defender made just 33 appearances in all competitions for Leeds in his two years at the club but has been thrown a lifeline by his father, who believes the deal is good business for Hull despite the potential for bad press if he fails to perform.

“Of course it puts a bit of pressure on him being the manager’s son, but he’s played in the Championship for a long time and enjoyed a good career at this level,” Bruce told the Hull Daily Mail.

“Nepotism is the word that will always crop up, and you have to think about that, but he’s at an age where he can handle it. I’m sure it won’t be a problem.

“When you look at what’s going around on the Bosman market, he makes a very good free transfer. It’s imperative that you have cover in the right areas and Alex can fill in anywhere along the back line.

“He’s 27 and he’ll handle this division. He’s at the peak of his career and looks in good shape. I’m sure he’ll be a decent acquisition.”
