Goalkeeper Hans-Jörg Butt will have to find a new employer. The German and Portuguese side Benfica mutually agreed to end their cooperation.
Butt made a move to Portugal last year after losing his position as first goalkeeper at Bayer Leverkusen to René Adler.
But the 34-year-old failed to secure a spot in Benfica’s starting line-up, with Quim being the preferred option for the goal in most games. In fact, the goalkeeper only played 30 minutes for the Lisbon-outfit.
It is expected that Butt returns to Germany, possibly to be reserve keeper behind Michael Rensing at Bayern Munich. Rensing is the most likely successor of Bayern legend Oliver Kahn.
