Bwalya lauds Zambia forwards

Former Zambia striker Kalusha Bwalya has complimented his national team’s attacking stars ahead of Sunday’s 2012 Africa Nations Cup final.

Zambia won two group-stage matches against Senegal and Equatorial Guinea, while drawing against Libya, to top Group A of this year’s tournament.

They thrashed Sudan 3-0 in the quarter-finals, before a narrow 1-0 victory over the highly regarded Black Stars of Ghana helped them to book their place in the final.

Zambia FA president Bwalya told SuperSport the attacking trio of Christopher Katongo, Rainford Kalaba and Emmanuel Mayuka were largely responsible for the team’s impressive run.

“Christopher Katongo is doing a fantastic job; Rainford is there too, Mayuka is getting the goals and we have two players on three goals each,” Kalusha said.

“And we also have (defender) Stopilla Sunzu coming from behind to score a header.”

Bwalya said it was wonderful to see the national team doing so well and preparing to contest the final against Ivory Coast in Libreville.

“I told the boys; you guys can score goals and enjoy the adventure and see what we can get. It is a proud moment for me,” he said.

Both Katongo and Mayuka have a shot at claiming the tournament’s golden boot award with three strikes apiece so far, while Ivory Coast’s Didier Drogba is also on three goals.
