Newcastle’s Yohan Cabaye has been handed a three-match suspension after his appeal over a violent conduct charge was thrown out by the FA.
Cabaye was cited by the FA following Newcastle’s 1-0 loss to Brighton in the fourth round of the FA Cup on Saturday, after a tangle with Brighton’s Adam El-Abd saw Cabaye’s boot make contact with the defender’s face.
The incident went unpunished by the match officials but was picked up on review of the match, and Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has blamed ESPN television pundit Ray Stubbs for escalating the situation.
The charge of violent conduct will stand against the player who will have to serve his three-match suspension, which starts with immediate effect.
Cabaye took to Twitter to give his take on the ban, labelling it an ‘injustice’.
“3 matches ban it’s a real injustice but life goes on!!! In my teammates I trust,” he wrote.
