Reigning champions Corinthians have continued their poor start to the season with a 1-1 draw against Figueirense.

Corinthians led 1-0 at half-time after Danilo’s goal but the home side could not hold on for the opening win of the season with Caio equalising for Figueirense.

Thursday’s draw means Corinthians remain in the relegation zone after three matches, although they did move off the bottom of the table above Nautico on goal difference.

Danilo gave the home crowd something to cheer about in the 38th minute.

Alessandro played a one-two on the right before chipping a cross over a group of players for Danilo to head home at the far post.

Corinthians dominated the match with 11 shots to Figueirense’s three but the visitors still managed to grab a share of the points in the 79th minute.

After Guilherme Santos overlapped down the left, the full-back whipped a cross towards the six-yard box.

The ball bounced over the outstretched leg of Corinthians defender Chicao and Figueirense forward Caio tapped in.

The draw gave Corinthians their first point of the season, while Figueirense are sixth with five points.

Meanwhile, Cruzeiro pulled off a stunning comeback to win 3-2 at Botafogo.

Botafogo led 2-0 at home with just over a quarter of an hour left before Cruzeiro got going.

The visitors scored three times in six minutes to claim victory.

Botafogo went in front thanks to a 21st-minute own goal from visiting midfielder Amaral and then doubled their lead in the 69th minute when German Herrera broke free to slot the ball home.

From then on it was all Cruzeiro.

Anselmo Ramon scored Cruzeiro’s first when he flicked a team-mate’s shot on with his head in the 74th minute, Everton snuck free at the back post to head in the equaliser two minutes later and Wellington Paulista completed the comeback with a penalty.
