Campeonato Brasileiro-leaders Vasco da Gama have defeated Nautico 4-2 to maintain their undefeated start to the season.
Alecsandro scored twice on Wednesday as the league-leaders won their third-straight game to stay at the top of the table.
The 31-year-old striker gave Vasco the lead with a smart finish in the 22nd minute before Felipe made it 2-0 with a stunning long-range strike 14 minutes later.
Vasco extended their lead again when Juninho Pernambucano made a late run into the box to finish off Diego Souza’s left-wing cross in the 63rd minute.
That was the first of three goals in six minutes as first Nautico’s Martinez found space in the penalty area to score and then Alecsandro grabbed his second goal with a tap in at the back post.
Nautico scored another in the 89th minute when Araujo broke through the home side’s defence to slot the ball past Vasco’s goalkeeper but a comeback was never likely.
Wednesday’s win sees Vasco lead the Campeonato Brasileiro with nine points, two ahead of second-placed Atletico Mineiro.

A brilliant curling free-kick from Argentine midfielder Andres D’Alessandro gave Internacional a 1-0 victory over Sao Paulo, while Sport Recife defeated Palmeiras 2-1 in driving rain.
Marquinhos Parana put the home side in front after 15 minutes after Jheimy set him up with a pass through the legs of a Palmeiras defender.
Hernan Barcos equalised seven minutes before the break with a powerful shot into the top corner but Recife claimed victory thanks to Felipe Azevedo’s 73rd-minute winner.
Vagner Love scored an equaliser in the fourth minute of second-half injury time to earn a 2-2 draw for Flamengo away to Ponte Preta, while Gremio triumphed 1-0 against Atletico Clube Goianiense.
