Palmeiras continued their bright start to the Campeonato Paulista season with a 2-0 win over Atletico Sorocaba on Thursday.
Gilson Kleina’s men struck twice in the opening 31 minutes to secure a comfortable victory at Estadio do Pacaembu in Sao Paulo.
The win lifts Palmeiras into fifth on the table as they extended their unbeaten run to three matches, while Atletico are 14th.
Palmeiras needed just six minutes to open the scoring in front of their home fans, with Marcio Araujo getting on the scoresheet.
A cross from the left was flicked on by Maikon Leite and Araujo was on hand to finish the move at the back post.
The hosts doubled their advantage just after the half-hour mark as Leite was again the architect, making a strong run down the right before crossing for an unmarked Henrique to head in.
Leite had a glorious chance to complete a fine performance but could only hit the side-netting in the second half, but it mattered little as Palmeiras held on for three points.
