Corinthians have claimed their 27th Campeonato Paulista title with a 3-2 aggregate victory following a 1-1 draw away to Santos.
Danilo was the hero for Corinthians, scoring in the 29th minute, as the visitors ensured Neymar’s reported farewell from Santos ended in defeat.
Neymar is expected to leave Santos and move to Europe before the start of the next European season and Sunday’s game at the Estadio Urbano Caldeira has been widely reported as the 21-year-old forward’s last match in front of his home fans.
Having lost the first leg of the Campeonato Paulista final 2-1, Santos took the aggregate lead on away goals when Cicero spectacularly volleyed Durval’s header into the top corner in the 27th minute.
But two minutes later and Danilo put Corinthians back in front on aggregate, shooting under Santos goalkeeper Rafael Cabral after the home defence failed to clear the ball twice.
