Palmeiras captain Hernan Barcos has scored twice in his side’s 3-0 home victory over Sao Bernardo in the Campeonato Paulista.
Barcos scored either side of half-time, split by a headed goal from Palmeiras midfielder Jorge Valdivia as the Sao Paulo-based club cruised past their local rivals on Thursday.
Palmeiras’ first goal came in the 33rd minute as a corner was flicked on at the near post and Barcos chested the ball across the line from less than a metre out.
Just six minutes in the second half and Valdivia made it 2-0 when he headed home Maikon Leite’s cross.
Barcos made it 3-0 in the 56th minute, tapping in the loose ball at the back post after an initial shot from a teammate was parried away by Sao Bernardo goalkeeper Wilson Junior.
The win put Palmeiras’ state championship campaign back on track as they moved up to sixth in the Campeonato Paulista standings, three points behind joint-leaders Santos and Ponte Preta, while Barcos’ brace keeps him in the running for the golden boot award, one goal behind Neymar and Penapolense’s Guaru.
In other results, Bragantino came from behind away to Guarani to win 3-1, while Atletico Sorocaba drew 2-2 with Botafogo.
