XV de Piracicaba moved away from the relegation zone thanks to a 2-0 win over Bragantino on Wednesday.
Estevam Soares’ team had lost two games in succession and sat just one point above the drop zone but second-half goals from Adriano Ferreira and Gustavo opened a four-point buffer for the 1976 champions.
After a goalless first-half, Piracicaba finally made the breakthrough in the 55th minute.
Marcio Diogo played in Ferreira for his first goal of the season before Gustavo doubled Piracicaba’s advantage seven minutes later.
In Wednesday’s other match, strugglers Ituano and Uniao Barbarense played out a scoreless draw.
