Campeonato Paulista wrap: Corinthians find form

SoccerNews in General Soccer News 28 Jan 2013

Corinthians secured their first win of the Campeonato Paulista with a 1-0 victory away at Mirassol on Sunday.

Striker Romanrinho scored the only goal of the game, rising highest at the back-post in the seventh minute.

Mirassol sprung into action after conceding, missing golden chances to square the game through Marcel and Camilo.

But Corinthians delighted their travelling support to grab the victory and rise to 12th in the standings while Mirassol remain the only point-less side in last position.

Santos remained in first position courtesy of a late Neymar equaliser as they drew 2-2 on the road against Bragantino.

The 14th-placed side took the lead twice in both halves through Raphael Andrade and Diego Macedo but were cancelled out by Cicero’s 51st minute strike and then Neymar’s 91st minute leveller.

The Paulista leaders were joined on seven points by Mogi Mirim as they recovered from a 1-0 deficit to beat nine-man XV de Piracicaba 4-2 in a incident-fuelled encounter.

Piracicaba striker Paulinho grabbed an early lead for his side on six minutes before a Ronei brace before the 29th minute snatched the lead back for Mogi.

Defender Pedro Paulo was sent-off for Piracicaba on 44 minutes but they still managed to tie the score-line through Luiz Eduardo just after half-time.

Mogi regained the advantage through Tiago Alves in the 62nd minute before Piracicaba were reduced to 10 men after Vinicius Bovi received his second yellow card on 89 minutes

Waguininho rubbed salt into the wound with Mogi’s fourth in stoppage time.

In other matches, Penapolense won 3-2 against Palmeiras while Botafogo overcame Sao Bernardo 2-0.

A first-half strike gave Paulista a 1-0 win over Uniao Barbarense.
