Mogi Mirim moved second in the Campeonato Paulista thanks to a narrow 1-0 victory at home to Oeste on Friday, as Paulista also won.

Carlos Alberto’s 68th-minute penalty was the difference between the teams at Estadio Romildo Vitor Gomes Ferreira, with the result lifting Mogi Mirim up to second spot, one point behind leaders Ponte Preta.

Oeste are 14th, two points clear of the relegation zone in a congested bottom half of the table.

In the other match on Friday, Paulista defeated struggling Atletico Sorocaba 3-1 at home, thanks to three goals in the space of seven minutes shortly before half-time.

Cassiano Bodini opened the scoring in the 31st minute at Estadio Dr. Jayme Pinheiro de Ulhoa Cintra, with Marcelo Macedo finding the back of the net two minutes later.

Rodolfo Testoni got in on the scoring act on 38 minutes, effectively ending the match as a contest with 52 minutes still to play.

Edson Sitta got one back for the visitors six minutes into the second half, but there was no way back for Atletico Sorocaba, who are a lowly 17th on the table.
