Ponte Preta threw away a chance to go three points clear on top of the Campeonato Paulista after a 3-3 draw at Ituano.
Two goals in the last two minutes ensured a draw for Ituano with Ponte Preta missing out on an opportunity to move clear of Santos, who are playing on Sunday.
Diego Rosa gave Ponte Preta the lead on 53 minutes before Vitor Hugo equalised four minutes later.
Strikes from Cleber Reis in the 66th minute and Cicinho on 76 minutes established a 3-1 for Ponte Preta before Ituano’s resurgence.
Fernando Gabriel gave the home side hope in the 88th minute and the comeback was completed a minute later through Cicinho.
A red-card to Sao Caetano defender Eli Sabia contributed to their 2-2 deadlock at Corinthians.
A 38th-minute effort by Jose Paolo Guerrero handed Corinthians the advantage until Brazilian legend Rivaldo levelled the game on 49 minutes.
Sao Caetano took the momentum on and got their noses in front through Danielzinho’s 64th minute goal before their job got harder with Sabia’s straight red on 70 minutes.
Corinthians profited from the man advantage with two minutes to go as Paulinho equalised, lifting them to fifth position in the standings.
Two goals in the first five minutes rounded out the scoring as Uniao Barbarense and Botofogo SP drew 1-1.
Uniao Barbarense were unable to profit from the 70th-minute dismissal of Botofogo defender Cris.
Sao Paulo are still ninth after their 2-1 win at Guarani, which featured both sides being reduced to 10 men through second yellows.
In other matches, Bragantino won 3-2 against Sao Bernardo despite playing a man down the last 20 minutes while an 86th-minute winner gave Oeste a 2-1 victory over Mirassol.
