Cardiff to sign Portugal international

Portuguese daily Record has suggested that Benfica striker Nelson Oliveira is set to join Premier League side Cardiff City.

Despite impressing while on loan at Deportivo La Coruna, the talented forward doesn’t seem to have a future at Estadio da Luz and he will be allowed to leave the club this summer.

According to Record, the Portugal international is set to join Cardiff City on a season-long loan, with the two clubs sorting out the final details of the transfer.

The Bluebirds have already signed striker Andreas Cornelius from FC Copenhagen, but they are hoping the Benfica forward will further increase competition for places in attack.

Nelson Oliveira came through the youth ranks at Estadio da Luz, but was never given a real chance to shine at Benfica, and had to prove his worth on loan spells at Rio Ave, Pacos de Ferreira and Deportivo La Coruna.

The 21-year-old is hoping to finally ensure some regular playing time, having made just four league starts over the last two seasons.
