Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll is on his way to Liverpool for a medical, the Anfield club have confirmed.
Liverpool are reportedly ready to pay an astonishing 35 million pounds for the 22-year-old, who has scored 11 goals in the English Premier League this season.
“Liverpool FC confirmed this afternoon that Newcastle United have accepted a club record offer for the transfer of Andy Carroll,” a statement on the Reds’ website said.
“The club have been given permission by Newcastle to discuss personal terms with the player, who will now travel to Liverpool for a medical.”
Carroll’s imminent signing will offset some of the hurt caused by Fernando Torres’ likely departure, with the Spanish superstar believed to be undergoing a medical at Chelsea ahead of a reported 50 million-pound move.
Liverpool have already sanctioned left-back Paul Konchesky’s loan move to Championship club Nottingham Forest.
