Cazorla’s return to Villarreal confirmed

Santi Cazorla has re-joined Villareal, both the Spanish club and the player himself have confirmed.

The midfielder has been out of action for almost two years now, since he injured his Achilles tendon playing in a Champions League game against Ludogorets Razgrad in October 2016. With standard medical treatments proving inefficient, he underwent eight separate surgical procedures, and he contracted gangrene on the damaged tissue. There were fears that he would never play again, and that he might even lose his leg, but he has, thankfully, recovered.

His contract with Arsenal expires at the end of this month and he is set to return to the club where he spent seven years over two stints, before moving to Malaga 2011 and joining the Gunners a year later.

For the North-London club he made 180 appearances and scored 29 goals, and now, at the age of 33, he hopes to rediscover his form at the club where he started his professional career.
