Celta Vigo have completed the signing of centre-back Andreu Fontas from Barcelona on a three-year deal.

The 23-year-old joined Barca’s La Masia academy in 2007 and impressed enough to earn a senior debut two years later during a La Liga win over Sporting Gijon.

However, his first-team involvement was curtailed by an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury suffered in January 2012.

After recovering from that setback, the defender went on to join Mallorca on a season-long loan until the end of the 2012-13 campaign, making a total of 11 appearances.

And his form over that period has now earned him a permanent switch to Balaidos.

“I chose Celta because of the project,” he said after securing the move. “I like the way the team plays and the forward-thinking mentality of Luis Enrique.”

Celta Vigo coach Luis Enrique worked with Fontas during his time as Barcelona B boss.
